15 - Bedroom 3

Bedroom 3 had the worst insulation - always too hot in the summer and cold in the winter.  This took a lot of work to renovate, the result was the opposite, retained warmth in the winter, cool in the summer.

1. Cut out ceiling and stuffed R19 all the way down with a long stick pushing the insulation down and compressing it.

2. There was no ceiling light here, instead an outlet connected to the switch, so extended electricity from there, to code.

3. Installed recessed lights.

4. Removed old sheet rock, repaired and resealed window frames, and insulated with R19, including the closet ceiling.

5. Hid excess cable and ran Ethernet cable from the living room TV Ethernet jack. The living room, Bedroom 1 and bedroom 3 all have ethernet jacks in the wall.

6. Installed a layer of insulation and plywood of the same thickness on top for easier shelf installation.

7. Sheetrocked, taped, spackled, and sanded.

8. Installed crown molding first.

9. Made a mistake, I installed the closet molding before the flooring, which I did not do anywhere else - I may have been tired on autopilot, so when I laid the hardwood floor, I could not lay the last row of flooring  I had to hammer in the row of board before it, which took 4 hours of hard, and careful rubber mallet hammering.  Note the precaution taken to double tape the bar and the wood, but I eventually prevailed.

10. Installed baseboard.
